Founder Madam Don recognized the need for a group of like-minded, inspirational women. She believed women with the same passion and goals could come together and uplift one another. Black women today need support more than ever, and Founder Don made it her mission to establish a Black Greek inspired sorority made to uplift and influence its sisters.

THE MISSION

Alpha Tau Xi was founded on Unity, Integrity, and Perseverance. We focus on sisterhood, education, love and self care. Our goal is to show the world that like minded women can work together, while building strong bonds and uplifting one another. In a community that promotes individuality, we encourage every woman in Alpha Tau Xi to be herself free of judgment. Every sister is motivated to be the best version of herself, and to exemplify what it means to be a Medusa woman.

THE CREST

The crest is influenced by the Greek Mythology legend Medusa. Much like black women, she was strong and powerful. Her bold presence appeared as sinister and cruel, but she actually represented a danger meant to deflect other dangers. Like Medusa, the crest symbolizes as a shield against negativity and inspires each sister to empower herself, as well as one another.

THE STONE

Emerald is a life-affirming stone. It opens the heart chakra and calms the emotions. It provides inspiration, balance, wisdom, and patience. It is said to promote friendship, peace, harmony, and domestic bliss by enabling the wearer to both give and receive unconditional love.

THE FLOWER

The white jasmine flower is the most common shade you will see, and it’s also the most commonly referenced in poems and artistic works. White is usually associated with purity, virginity, and innocence, so it makes sense that the symbolic meaning of the jasmine flower also follows in this tradition. White jasmine flowers can also symbolize respect, so if you give someone a bouquet of white jasmine you are indicating that you think highly of them.
